Da' Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

Ya see, I'm still playing around here. Ch.Seth is going to grace my header for a while. He's a result of my very first litter of Shelties bred. Both him and his brother, Ch.Omar, finished their conformation championships. Unfortunatly both have crossed that rainbow bridge. Brooke, Seth's daughter, is 13, she's the last of my sheltie line. So, sad. If you can deal with hair, and their mouths. Shelties are awesome pets.

The Good Is, But. .

Well I've good news and bad news. The good news is my yarn from Beaverslide showed up. It's exactly the heathery/tweedy look I was hoping for. It is oh so soft, and despite another knitter's opinion I could not detect a *sheepy* smell.

Unfortunately, yep here it comes, the color I chose ended up being a McTaggart Tweed, which when I was looking at their site I noticed, but somehow didn't realize that the color Big Sky Heather was a McTaggart Tweed. So, imagine my surprise when my package arrived today and upon opening a rather bulky weight yarn greeted my eyes. I imedeatly thought, oh shit this doesn't look good. But I was in love with the feel and look and just had to try.

Grabed my size 7's and went for the small sized sleeve, this is what I'm doing thus far for all my potential choices for Rogue. Man it was like knitting with stiff cotton. Needles way to small and yarn just to damn thick. I was determined to see how the cables would look so I kept knitting it. The fabric is really dense and quite firm. It almost feels like it was felted already. The gauge on this is 4-5 sts/inch on size 7-9 with a wpi of 9. The best I could do was 4 sts/inch and there is no way to even consider using smaller needles. Ain't gonna happen.

So, instead I called and talked to them, which was a pleasure, and ended up ordering a set of worsted color cards and a hank of Swift current Fisherman weight (10 wpi) and a hank of something resembling the color Granite in the Fisherman only in their worsted. Heavy sigh.
